Other Edinburgh Ghosts Etc

As well as the major spooks listed on this site, Edinburgh has numerous "minor" ghosts and ghostly attractions. Here are a few of them:

The Grey Lady

The Palace of Holyrood - the Queen's official residence in Scotland - has a number of ghosts, the most well known of which is the Grey Lady. She has been seen on many occasions, often in the Queen's Audience Chamber, and is believed to be the spirit of one of Mary Queen of Scots' companions.

This grey lady is not to be confused with the grey lady of Glamis Castle!

Liberton House

Liberton House is home to one of the few ghosts that has been successfully photographed - the picture appeared in the Scotsman in 1936. The ghost has not been seen since a fire in 1991, however its voice is still heard. It appears to have developed a habit of interfering with electrical equipment which frequently malfunctions for no obvious reason.

Charlotte Square

Charlotte Square Gardens are home to the annual Edinburgh International Book Festival. The Square itself is reputedly home to several ghosts. These include the traditional ghost coach and also a monk. More common is a non-visual apparition: the sound of a piano seemingly coming from nowhere can sometimes be heard.

Koestler Parapsychology Unit

Not really connected with ghosts but definitely of interest. Edinburgh University's KPU conducts scholarly reseach into parapsychology (PSI) - more details here.
