Easter Decorations

Easter is a time marked by decorations. In the northern hemisphere, Easter is a spring festival so the holiday decorations often reflect this. Customs and traditions vary between countries however flowers and other symbols of spring are commonplace.

Many people like to buy high quality Easter decorations, others with crafting skills like to make their own. This is also a great craft projects for kids. Remember that safety must be paramount, not just during the making but afterwards - for example, be careful to avoid fire risks.

If you're looking for inspiration, here are a few Easter decorating ideas and suggestions:

Flowers

Flowers are definitely the number one Easter decoration for many people. Flower arrangements are also commonly found in churches, with the white lily being very popular.

An arrangement can be as simple as a single flower or as complex as a whole bouquet. Many people like to buy - or make - an Easter wreath.

Banners

Decorative banners are easy to make and can cheer up a room. They're also a good project for getting kids involved. If there are several children, one possibility is a patchwork where different kids make different parts of the banner which are then joined together. Be very careful to avoid fire hazards, remember that paper as well as many glues and fabrics are highly flammable.

Eggs

What would Easter be without a chocolate egg? Many of the eggs you can buy today are so well presented that they can form decorations in themselves. Alternatively, a number of smaller eggs can be arranged, possibly in a basket.

If you have a taste for miniatures then decorated eggs can look really stunning. The ultimate decorated eggs were probably the famous jewelled Faberge eggs, however you can buy much more affordable decorated eggs today! Alternatively if you have artistic skills then you can paint your own. A hand painted egg can also make a unique gift.

Decorated eggs are especially popular in Eastern European countries, in particular the Ukraine where they are known as pysanky.

Baskets

Decorative Baskets are popular - especially with children when the Easter bunny fills them with candy! Again, these can either be bought at the store or made yourself. Baskets can be filled with eggs, flowers, treats - almost anything.

Bonnets

Don't forget that it's not only your home you can decorate - it's yourself as well! Many Easter bonnets are spectacular. In fact some are so spectacular that they are probably impractical to wear and would work better as a table centre piece!
