Halloween Games

These days Halloween is mainly treated as an excuse for a good party. In keeping with this, there are a number of games which are frequently played. Some are traditional, others less so.

Traditional Halloween Games

Most of the traditional Halloween games seem to involve food. Perhaps there's a connection with the idea of vampires and other creatures with sharp teeth feasting on human flesh? Fortunately games today are generally suitabe for vegetarians!

The most well known game is, of course, apple bobbing or ducking. Apples are placed in a tub of water and players must remove them with their teeth, hands kept behind the back.

A different sort of apple bobbing is to have the apple suspended from the ceiling. Again, it must be eaten without using the hands. For an interesting variation the plain apple can replaced by a toffee apple - or anything else gooey and sticky!

Don't forget that the games can begin before the party - even long before Halloween night itself. The decorating of halloween cookies and treats can be made into a game for properly supervised children. All manner of crafts, from simple pumpkin decorating to complex costume making, can become a game.

Less Traditional Games

Almost any party game can be made into a Halloween game with a little imagination - how about "pin the nose on the pumpkin"? Or a scavenger hunt for the Halloween treats? A skeleton pinata? Instead of passing a ball between the knees, how about passing a pumpkin? (Be prepared for a mess!)

Those are just a couple of ideas. Take an ordinary game, add a little scary stuff and voila! This is the approach taken by some of the Haloween themes games you can buy at the store.

The ultimate modern day halloween party activity must be the haunted house. This takes a huge amount of work for just one evening of fun but if done well the results can be spookily satisfying.

Always put safety first and ensure that children are properly supervised.

Have fun!
