Festivals

Many of the festivals and holidays we celebrate today have their origins in the distant past. Remember that the word "holiday" is derived from "Holy Day".

Most of our modern festivals - and the customs associated with them - derive from religious, occult or pagan roots. People who would not normally take in interested in "all that wyrd rubbish" will happily give each other Easter eggs and encourage the kids to go trick-or-treating!

Of course things are never that simple in the wyrd world. Some of the holiday customs we hold most dear are actually comparitively modern in origin and have no deep significance at all.

On this section of the site I'll be exploring the origins of some of our Western holidays and the customs that underlie them. Of course none of this should detract from the modern festival as it is celebrated today - however hopefully it will make the next Halloween, Easter, etc rather more interesting.
