Creativity is a little understood capability of the human mind. Some people have gone as
far as to say that it is our human creativity that distinguishes us from the animals.
Whether or not you go that far, creativity is undeniably important to our culture and
society.
Many people don't consider themselves "creative". The word is often associated with
artists, the lucky minority who can create pictures, sculptures, music etc. In fact we are
all creative and it is important in all our lives. For example:
|
- entertaining a young child
- making a meal from a few ingredients
- telling and embellishing an anecdote
- combining individual clothes to create an outfit
- inventing excuses for being late to work!
|
Those are just a few of the ways in which we are all creative, even if we don't call
ourselves artists. Every item in that list is an example of daily innovation; you don't
have to be
Leonardo da Vinci to be creative.
Creativity matters. But
what is it? Can it be analysed? Can we
improve our creativity, both personally and
in business?
Those are some of the questions these pages will consider.
