Lucid DreamingInduction DevicesIt's quite possible to learn to have lucid dreams without buying any equipment. However some people find it more difficult than others and use what are known as lucid dream induction devices. The best known of all these devices - perhaps the first dedicated LD machine - was the Nova Dreamer.
How Do Lucid Dream Induction Devices Work?In theory lucid dreaming is very simple - all you have to do is to realise that you're dreaming. In practice that's easier said than done.A good way to realise that when you are dreaming is to begin to notice your "dream signs". These are certain people, places, things, emotions - anything - that frequently appear in your dreams. Whenever these occur in the "real" world you ask yourself "Am I dreaming?". Sooner or later the answer will be "yes". Lucid dream induction devices work by generating artificial dream signs, usually flashing lights and/or sounds. You train yourself to notice these in the "real" world then the device generates them in your dreams. A lucid dreaming device usually resembles a sleep mask. Sensors in the mask monitor the movement of your eyes when asleep. This movement indicates REM (Rapid Eye Movement) Sleep which is when most dreams occur. At that point the device begins to flash LEDs. Hopefully these will make themselves known as flashing lights in your dreams and this in turn will cause you to become lucid. Do you need to buy a dream machine to have lucid dreams? No. Will one help you to have lucid dreams? Perhaps. Some people find them extremely helpful, others gain little from them.
