The journal Science has published information on the discovery of the fossilised remains of a new species of crocodile. The creature has been dubbed "Godzilla".
Formally known as Dakosaurus andiniensis, the 13ft long croc had a dinosaur like snout and jagged teeth, leading to the Godzilla nickname. It lived around 140 million years ago during the Cretaceous Period.
The first evidence of Dakosaurus andiniensis was discovered in 1996 by palaeontologist Zulma Gasparini. This fragment has recently been joined by two other specimens including a complete fossilised skull. These allowed scientists to build up a better picture of the Godzilla croc which is believed to have been a ferocious predator.
