IQ Tests for Aberdeen Dogs

Tuesday, February 07, 2006

The BBC reports that researchers at Aberdeen University will be carrying out tests to compare the IQ of different dogs.

The motive behind the research is a lack of suitable candidates for training as police or guide dogs. Certain pure breeds are usually employed for these purposes, however Aberdeen scientists want to discover if other breeds or mongrels might have the necessary potential.

The tests will include locating and retrieving hidden food. Dogs will be scored on an intelligence scale of 30.

Aberdeen University are still looking for local dog owners who wish to put their pets to the test.
