Award For People Who Don't Know They're Dead

Sunday, March 05, 2006

A self-help book for people who are being haunted has received an award - albeit a rather back-handed one.

People Who Don't Know They're Dead: How They Attach Themselves To Unsuspecting bystanders and what to do about it by Gary Leon Hill has won the Bookseller Award / Diagram Prize for "Oddest Title of the Year".

Hill's book tells the story of how his Uncle Wally Johnston and Aunt Ruth Johnston came to counsel lost spirits residing in the bodies of other people. Hill combines this story with ideas about ghosts and consciousness plus suggestions on how to avoid falling victim to such unwanted cosmic hitchhikers.

"People Who Don't Know They're Dead" is published by Weiser Books. To win the award it beat off competition from many other weird titles including "Rhino Horn Stockpile Management: Minimum Standards and Best Practices from East and Southern Africa".
