... but aren't aliens.
The BBC reports on a newly released UK government report into the UFO phenomenon. Unlike many such reports this one isn't from back in the 1950s but from the 1990s. It concludes that UFOs do exist - but that they aren't alien spacecraft.
The 400 page report was released following a Freedom of Information request from Dr David Clarke of Sheffield Hallam University. The report concludes that UFOs (which it calls Unidentified Aerial Phenomena - UAPs) do exist but that they are most likely the result of unusual weather conditions, meteors, etc. In other words, the usual suspects. Close encounters are explained away by the effect of plasma fields on the temporal lodes of the brain.
The report states that "No evidence exists to suggest that the phenomena seen are hostile or under any type of control, other than that of natural physical forces."
The conclusions of this report are unlikely to surprise anyone. What is surprising is that the British government was still taking the subject so seriously so recently. What exactly prompted the commissioning of this report?
Conspiracy theorists will note that the identity of the report's author remains a secret.
