Texas UFOs Were F-16 Jets

Thursday, January 24, 2008

The recent UFO flap over central Texas was apparently nothing more than ten Air Force Reserve F-16 fighter jets, according to Air Force officials.

A number of witnesses had reported seeing fast moving lights in the sky (LITS), however the air force initially denied having any aircraft in the sky at the time. The air force now say that this was a mistake arising from poor internal communication and that there were indeed ten of their fighter jets from 457th Fighter Squadron flying over the area on a training mission.

At least it wasn't a fleet of weather balloons...

Buckhurst Hill UFO

Thursday, October 11, 2007

A Lights In The Sky (LITS) UFO has been seen over Buckhurst Hill in the South of England. The local Guardian reports that the LITS were seen on October 5th 2007 at 8:20 pm.

Jenny Cooper-Rendu and her 13 year old son spotted "rows of large yellow lights suspended in the air, completely silent". After a few minutes the lights dispersed in different directions. The scene was witnessed by a number of motorists.

Mrs Cooper-Rendu says that the lights couldn't have been fireworks because they remained suspended for too long, and they no noise hence couldn't be helicopters.

One possibility is that the lights were Thai lanterns which are often released at weddings and which have been suggested as the the cause of previous UFO reports.

UFOs Over Northern Ireland

Thursday, May 17, 2007

The BBC reports that unexplained lights were seen in the sky over Bangor, County Down last weekend. What makes these UFO reports more interesting than the usual Lights In The Sky (LITS) is that there were reports from multiple observers including the Coastguard.

The UFOs were seen last Saturday and were described by witnesses as orange globes. Belfast International Airport has stated that no aircraft were in the sky at the time. Some reports say the lights were seen over the loch.

Such LITS reports often turn out to be lights from party celebrations reflecting off clouds. In this case the report from a trained observer - the coast guard - makes that explanation less likely.

It has been suggested that the lights were in fact wedding lanterns ("fire balloons") of the type traditionally used in Thai ceremonies.

"UFO" Crashes off Port Shepstone

Thursday, May 25, 2006

Strange goings on at Port Shepstone last weekend. Something appears to have crashed into the sea - some people are calling it a UFO.

The sighting occcured last Saturday when numerous witnesses reported that "something" had crashed in the sea. This was reported to have been behind the breaker line off-shore of Port Shepstone High School.

Some people have claimed that the "crash" was simply a tornado sucking water up into the air - there was such a tornado in the area. However many people are unconvinced by this explanation. The witnesses included local teachers and fishermen who should be able to recognise a tornado when they see one. Some of the eye witnesses also talk of seeing smoke and flames.

The NSRI is also unconvinced by the tornado hypothesis. NSRI commander Eddie Noyons agreed that there had been a tornado but believes that something did crash. The NSRI searched 12 square nautical miles but found nothing - no bodies, no wreckage and, most importantly, no oil slick.

So what was this "UFO"? Given the lack of debris or oil it seems unlikely to have been an aircraft. Was it an alien space ship? Or just a meteorite?

The search for the truth is due to continue this weekend.

Official: UFOs Exist...

Sunday, May 07, 2006

... but aren't aliens.

The BBC reports on a newly released UK government report into the UFO phenomenon. Unlike many such reports this one isn't from back in the 1950s but from the 1990s. It concludes that UFOs do exist - but that they aren't alien spacecraft.

The 400 page report was released following a Freedom of Information request from Dr David Clarke of Sheffield Hallam University. The report concludes that UFOs (which it calls Unidentified Aerial Phenomena - UAPs) do exist but that they are most likely the result of unusual weather conditions, meteors, etc. In other words, the usual suspects. Close encounters are explained away by the effect of plasma fields on the temporal lodes of the brain.

The report states that "No evidence exists to suggest that the phenomena seen are hostile or under any type of control, other than that of natural physical forces."

The conclusions of this report are unlikely to surprise anyone. What is surprising is that the British government was still taking the subject so seriously so recently. What exactly prompted the commissioning of this report?

Conspiracy theorists will note that the identity of the report's author remains a secret.

UFOs Over Reading

Sunday, April 30, 2006

There seems to be a minor UFO flap brewing over the Reading area.

The Reading Post has been receiving calls from readers who have been surprised by "something" in their skies.

Both incidents related refer to glowing balls of light in the sky. Interestingly, on one occasion the the UFO was described as green and on the next as red. This would suggest that they are not simply copycat or wish-fulfilment sightings.

"Solo" Hacker Was Hunting UFOs - And Found Them

Friday, April 28, 2006

In 2002, Briton Gary McKinnon was arrested on charges of hacking into sensitive US military computers. Officials claim he carried out "the biggest computer hack of all time".

McKinnon, who went by the hacker name "Solo", allegedly broke into numerous computers including those at NASA, The Pentagon and the Johnson Space Center.

He is now quoted as saying that his aim was to find evidence of UFOs and suppressed technology. "Stuff the government wouldn't tell you about".

McKinnon claims to have found some revealing information, including something called the "Disclosure Project". This, he says, contained expert testimony that extra-terrestrial technology had been obtained. He also claims to have seen a photo of what he believes to be a UFO.

McKinnon denies causing $700,000 damage to military and NASA systems in 2001-2.

Roswell Autopsy: The Max Headroom Connection

Tuesday, April 18, 2006

Some ten years ago word began leaking out about a spectacular piece of film reportedly showing the autopsy of an alien life-form. The alien's body had supposedly been recovered from a UFO that crashed at Roswell. The film became known as the Santilli footage after the distributor Ray Santilli who claimed he had obtained it from a retired US military cameraman.

Despite the hype the film was, unfortunately, a fake. Now the Sunday Times reports that the man who made the dummy alien corpses has owned up.

The model maker was sculptor John Humphreys. Humphreys' main claim to fame is as the creator of "Max Headroom", the artificial and intensely irritating DJ who introduced the 1980s music show of the same name.

The "Roswell" footage was apparently shot in a Camden flat. Humphreys says that he made the aliens and also appeared in the film as the chief surgeon.

Humphreys has previously worked on Doctor Who and more recently on the "Ant 'n' Dec" movie "Alien Autopsy" that is based on the Rowsell hoax.
