Christian Angels
In the Christian tradition angels have an important role as messengers of God. They are usually thought of as winged creatures of light, however some think that any human carrying a divine message can be considered an "angel".Probably the most well-known formulation of the angelic hierarchy is attributed to the 5th century author Pseudo-Dionysius the Areopagite. In his work "The Celestial Hierarchy" he divides angels into nine groups or "choirs". These are grouped into three triads, with the highest triad being nearest to God and the third triad nearest to humanity.
