The Sedona Method

The Sedona Method

If you have an interest in personal development and self-improvement programmes then the chances are you've heard of the Sedona Method. This course in "letting go" was developed by Hale Dwoskin based on principles taught to him by the late Lester Levenson. The first class was taught in 1974 in Sedona, Arizona and the Method has now been used by tens of thousands of people around the world.

Dwoskin is co-founder of Sedona Training Associates (STA) through whom you can buy the Method on audio CD for home use or attend seminars and training courses. STA is, of course, based in Sedona, AZ.

What Is The Sedona Method?

Although some people have described the Sedona Method as having a "spiritual" core, it's not founded in any religion or belief system. Since it essentially involves "letting go", STA describe the Method as "the opposite of brainwashing".

Just Let Go

The core of the Sedona Method is a simple set of questions intended to help you to recognise your emotions and let go of the ones that you don't want. This is designed to allow you to rid yourself of unhelpful emotional baggage, resolve unwanted feelings and just "be" in the moment.

The theory is that by letting go of emotions in this way you can free yourself from unwanted thoughts, feeling and behaviours. Potential benefits of this, according to STA, include improved relationships, less stress and curing bad habits.

Personal Experience

I decided to buy the Sedona Method on tape some years ago. Unfortunately I can't give a full review since I didn't complete the course.

Initially I was impressed by how simple and effective the Method was at releasing unwanted feelings. I was pleasantly surprised by its effectiveness and it certainly had a positive impact.

As the course went on I found it increasingly less in tune with my personal outlook on life. It reminded me a little of some of the Eastern philosophies, with which I've always had issues.

So in the end the Method wasn't for me. However there are a very large number of Sedona Method practitioners who have found it effective for them. The only way you'll ever know for sure is to try it.
