Myrtle Beach, SCMyrtle Beach is situated in the Grand Strand region of South Carolina and is a popular tourist destination and vacation resort which is also known for its golf courses. Probably the best known tourist travel destination is Broadway on the Beach which houses over 100 speciality shops plus 15 attractions and numerous restaurants and nightclubs as well as 3 on-site hotels.Myrtle Beach is also said to be home to a number of ghosts as well as housing several attractions that could be of interest to fans of the strange and the weird. These include also ghost walks, tours, etc.
GhostsThe most famous ghost of Myrtle Beach is Alice Flagg. Alice came from a respected family and was the younger sister of a wealthy rice grower. So when she fell in love with a mere craftsman - a shipbuilder's son - it was clear that the family would never approve. The young man gave her an engagement ring which she wore secretly on a chain around her neck. One day Alice fell ill and whilst her brother was tending to her he found the ring. He flew into a rage, ripped the ring from around her neck and threw it into the sea. On waking and realising what her brother had done Alice died, supposedly of a broken heart. It's said that her ghost still walks the shoreline, searching for her ring. There is also a story that Alice's ghost can be summoned by walking backwards around her grave 13 times. Many tourists have tried this, apparently with little success.
Believe It Or NotThe famous Ripley's Believe It Or Not franchise has an "Odditorium" in Myrtle Beach, at Ocean Boulevard and Ninth Avenue North. This contains over 500 exhibits and oddities.Ripley's also has a number of other atractions in the Myrtle Beach area including their Haunted Adventure tour of the old Grimsby & Streaper Casket Company as well as Ripley's Aquarium - claimed to be South Carolina's most visited attraction.
