Wedding Insurance

A wedding is one of the most important events of your life - it can also be one of the most expensive. It's been estimated that the average wedding in the US costs between $15,000 and $20,000. Even a relatively low-key event can cost many thousands, especially when the costs of the the honeymoon are included.

Most weddings are successful however unexpected problems can and do occur. These can be anything from minor but expensive glitches through to full scale disasters. Hence the popularity of the modern wedding insurance plan.

Trying to protect the wedding from problems is actually an ancient tradition. The role of the bridesmaid was initially to confuse evil spirits and protect groom - as well as the wedding gifts! Wedding insurance is focussed is less on evil spirits and prevention, more on accidents and compensation.

There are many different policies available to buy online, make sure you compare the options to discover which is best for you. Exactly what do you want covered? Insurance policies vary tremendously in terms of cover and this is often reflected in the price. You'll also want to check the small print as to what your obligations are in order to be able to claim.

Some of the things that might or might not be included in your policy are:

  • The reception
  • The honeymoon
  • Honeymoon expenses abroad
  • Loss/damage/theft of gifts
  • Loss/damage/theft of dresses
  • Loss/damage/theft of rings
  • Cost of replacement car and other transport
  • Failure of photographer/videographer
  • Costs of legal disputes
  • Cancellation
The last of these, wedding cancellation, will hopefully never happen to you. However even if you're the most devoted couple in the world it's possible that one or both will end up in hospital the night before. These are the sort of things to bear in mind when you compare policies to find the best choice for you.

As I said at the beginning, most weddings are highly successful and enjoyable events. An insurance policy is simply a safety net that hopefully you'll never need to claim on. Concentrate on enjoying your big day and leave the worrying to the insurance company.
